Healthy Habits To Maintain Weight Loss
Once we’ve reached our goal, maintaining this place is not always easy. When we reach something called a “plateau” or are satisfied with our current bodyweight, the lifestyle we created to get there still needs to stay. Maintenance is not a simple thing to do but it can still be enjoyable. Hopefully if you’re at the point where you have reached your goal, you have also developed a positive relationship with exercise too. Constantly moving our bodies is something everyone should do, whatever your goal may be. Movement is something we must commit to incorporating into our lifestyle permanently, not just to get to where we want to be. Here are some things I find help people to maintain their hard work after achieving their goals:
Find Something You Enjoy To Stay Fit
Finding an activity or something to keep you fit that you like doing will help keep you from dreading your routine. Having something you look forward to is a big step in you fitness journey and a discovery you will have to make about yourself if you haven’t already. Stop trying to force yourself to do stuff you hate just because it’s good for you. If you hate running, don’t do it. Try other forms of cardio, like rowing, HIIT, biking, or swimming. If you hate broccoli, don’t force yourself to eat it. There are plenty of other green nutritious vegetables out there.
Take Small Steps In Your Approach
Creating and establishing a routine that works for you takes time, there’s no need to rush. If you’ve never worked out before, you don’t need to start doing 90 minute workouts. Start with a 10-20 minute low impact workout to begin, then work your way to higher intensity and longer durations. If you’re trying to drink more water, start by adding one more bottle of what you’re used to having or just practise having water on you all the time!
Have People That Keep You Accountable
Sometimes, if we’re being honest, just relying on ourselves doesn’t always work. A lot of us need that extra push, especially when it comes to working out. Having a support system is really important, especially if having a healthy lifestyle and habits is something new for you. Check in with your friends and family, and get them in on it too! Keep each other going by checking in to see how you’re doing, this makes you want to not let yourself down, but also the other person too. If you don’t have an option for this, you can always hire someone like myself :).
At the end of the day, we are going to slip up here and there, and thats okay! As long as we know we are going to come back around and we don’t let ourselves “fall off the wagon” completely is what matters… and just keep moving!
