The Benefits Of Getting A TRX

When it comes to picking the right workout equipment for our homes, it can be tough depending on our space and our budget. The TRX has many benefits when it comes to our workouts and what it can do for our bodies, but there are also benefits of having it for at home!

You can do any type of workout, quickly and effectively. Sometimes we don't have the proper weights to do our workouts from home, we have heavy enough for legs but not light enough for upper body, or vice versa… and its not easy to store all those free weights either. The TRX can be used for a full body, upper or lower body workout depending on your goals. It’s great for core workouts as well and can allow us to try different techniques for basic exercises like the squat or chest press!

When we use the TRX we are engaging different stabilizer muscles than we would be when using free weights. We engage our core a lot more as we have to hold ourselves while performing the movement, rather than laying on the bench. Now when we’re doing dumbbells we are stabilizing too, but as mentioned its not quite in the same format. This is why it’s nice to switch it up once in a while! Another great reason for getting a TRX. If you feel you are in a plateau and have only been using free weights, this can be a nice way to challenge yourself.

The TRX allows us to try different movements that we may not be able to perform with free weight or even just our bodyweight. Here is an example of one of my favourites, the “curtsy” squat:

With the TRX we can hang on as we bring the foot behind and off to the side, but the toe never actually touches the ground. This keeps the tension on the standing leg and glute, and makes us use our stabilizer muscles even when we don't get the rest in between. Exercise’s like these can be great for balance when done properly, ensuring you are pressing through the heel of the foot and keeping the chest up. The TRX can also have a fun twist on the “Bulgarian” split squat too, one of everyones favourites:

Rather than having our foot that is behind on a fixed surface, putting it in the trx will allow that foot to move with us as we go. This can help us get deeper into our lunge and further engage the glute to stand back up.

The TRX is a great tool for all fitness levels, helping to modify certain exercises like the squat for those working through basic functional movements. They can hang on to the handles, and still focus on keeping the chest up rather than if we were to hang onto something fixed that may make us lean forward or push our bodyweight into it.

Lastly, the TRX can be set up and taken down almost anywhere! There are many different mounts available that can be used in your home, or you can always take your tax on the go with the over the door option :)

Happy Exercising!
